Throughout my life I’ve always followed my intuition, whether it was a personal decision or a professional one. There are times when your gut feeling is a little scary and fear takes over.

Early in my career a good friend of mine shared some words of wisdom with me. “Taste the words.” At the time Gregory was my public speaking coach and mentor. I laughed at his words. “Do you mean I need to be more dramatic? Add more feeling to my speech?”

Gregory stroked his beard and smiled. “More than that, I want you to taste life.” Of course, we dissected the speech and worked through my weak areas, but his quote has long stayed with me.

After the death of my first husband I felt as if I had lost my identity. Family and friends shared their views of what I should be doing and not doing. At some point in time, I made up my mine to follow my gut feeling and take a chance.

My future husband Michael and I decided to get away from our well intentioned family and friends. Following our hunches we took the risk and left on a trip filled with adventure and soul searching. We knew we needed to find ourselves again, rediscover who we were.

We needed to taste life again.
